Democracy will not come
Today, this year

Through compromise and fear.

I have as much right
As the other fellow has
To stand
On my own two feet
And own the land.

I tire of hearing people say,
Let things take their course.
Tomorrow is another day.
I do not need my freedom when I'm dead.
I cannot live on tomorrow's bread.

Feedom is a strong seed
Planted
In a great need.

I live here, too.
I want freedom
Just as you.

Written Response to Haiti Earthquake

Everybody was shocked when they first heard news of the earthquake in Haiti but, still it was only mentioned in passing. By reading the report on the earthquake, only then could I comprehend the full extent of the aftershock results , or at least a more elaborate explanation on the effects of the catastrophe.

I was truly perplexed by the sheer power of the earthquake and more so by the toll it has taken on the people of Haiti. The ramifications included contaminated water, lack of shelter and improper sanitation. Disease will soon be spreading if not already. Since food is already very scarce in the country, it becomes a major necessity among the multitudes of people. Within the first week people already begin to starve, along with all manner of problems rapidly building.

Furthermore, people continue dying from untreated injuries everyday despite efforts. Three million people suffer from severe trauma. Consequently, society will soon begin to corrupt and social security will again become a major issue. In the absence of all resources for survival people will be forced to 'fight to survive'.

Yes, the health of the people of Haiti is very poor indeed. It's safe to say that Haiti will have to endure the harsh times to come, though not without hope. International aid from all over the world come with supplies and good intentions everyday combining efforts to better the society of Haiti. This is why there is still hope. Everybody in the world should be involved, schools should make it a point to involve students of all ages to help for the benefit of the people in Haiti. Put together, every inch of effort, and every individual putting in that special effort, can make a difference.

grease vs soc (persuasive writing)

So listen kid, I know your knew in town so let me tell you something, the people you want to be hanging out with is the socs. Man, if there is one thing I know for sure it’s that we get all the breaks.
Down here we’re the rich ones, we’ve got the money. You want to be seen in a corvette or a mustang? Well there is no way you’ll be getting one of those being a lowlife thug that’s for sure. We can go around wrecking houses, cars, and causing all kinds of trouble, and the best part is----listen to this-----we will never even take the blame. Man, we have the freedom to do what we want, get we want when we want it. You see my friend, we own the streets. Plus, with our high end rep we’ve always got options you know, easy opportunity, you dig?
Oh and by the way, let me tell you something even those dirt poor-good for nothing-gun totting-trash-hoods agree on, we have got the hottest girls in town, the cheerleader types, and guess what they all have in common, they’re all socs. Now there’s a reasonable piece of mind. Think on it…

music: a perfect circle

Formed in 1999 by guitarist Billy Howerdel and tool vocalist Maynard James Keenan, 'A Perfect Circle' is an American alternative rock and metal group from Bell Gardens California. Despite having an always changing cast of band members, the style of the songs have remained consistent, with Howerdel composing and Keenan penning the lyrics.

In total the band has released three albums over 5 years before going their separate ways, one of which being Mer De Noms, the bands debut album released on May 23 2000. This album is distinctive for being the highest ever debut for a rock band selling over 188,000 copies in the first week of its launch and reaching #4 on billboard 200. After playing shows in L.A. and recording this first album, the band soon went on tour then returning to record their second and third album 'Thirteenth Step' (2003) and 'Emotive ' (2004).

I myself only discovered this band accidentally, three days ago while researching another band. After listening to a few songs I was mesmerized by their ability to take sadness, bittersweet mourning, and a slight dark humor, all these concepts and emotions and express them in notes and chords and voice. A rare and unique style not many bands can attain. They closely remind me of a metal band played and sung by angels. Very interesting to listen to.

'The Noose', a song from the album Thirteenth Step, is a lengthy song but its one worth listening to. Starting with a calm melodic alluring almost endearing melody, and towards the end the song reaches its climax completely shattering its calm melody with an emphatic vigor that some might call liberating, yet keeping the same melancholy tonality of the song itself.

Giant purple Mountain Sloth Escapes

Recent sightings have spotted what looks like a 'giant purple dinosaur' running down the mountain side uncontrollably. According to zoologist Dr.Lennings, this 'creature' belongs to an almost extinct species of mountain sloth(thus the abnormally large paws). This specific animal is known as Purplius Barneyan, although the state of Mexico has officially dubbed it the 'Chupa cabra'. Dr.Lennings also warns us that this animal is hostile, and due to improper domestication has escaped from its cage. The animal has assaulted three civilians, of which they are under heavy treatment recovering from intense phsycological stress. A recent quote from one of the victims states: "His eyes burned purple fiery death". The National Zoologist Association suggests that all citizens must remain indoors until further notice. Note that this animal is particularly attracted to money and small children.

cartoon version:
I would say out of all of them this one would be my favorite because the way the story was told there was a lot more suspense. I also noticed that the whole video was depicted in images that told the story, and still made a lot more sense than the other videos. from an artistic viewpoint this video I think was very surreal, and that's the best part, makes it so much more interesting
animated version:
This version was definitely the spookiest especially that scene where the phsycotic guy was peeking through the old mans door. I realised a lot of the original story was cut out, extremely summarized, and there was hardly any talking from the voice of the narrator. all in all, this video seemed a lot more like a movie trailer.
Muppet version:
this one I thought was great, although you probably had to watch it a few times for it to actually make any sense, it was also quite summarized, and the words where completely different from the original text. Muppet told the story in third person.
this video had a pleasant twist, it was a much happier or fun version(as in, not dark and ominous), nice for a change.
